    Andrew graduated with a B.A.Sc in Nanotechnology Engineering from the University of Waterloo. His current research focuses on the development of new nanomaterials for use in light emission.

    Andrew completed his B.Sc in Chemistry at Concordia University in Montreal, QC. Following his undergrad, he pursued graduate studies at Princeton University under the supervision of Greg Scholes studying photosynthetic light harvesting using ultrafast optical spectroscopy and theory. He then transferred to UofT to join the Sargent group. He is currently interested in the synthesis and photophysics of CQDs and their applications in light harvesting.

    Aoni Xu is a Ph.D. student in University of Science and Technology Beijing under the supervision of Prof. Chaofang Dong. Her research is focused on exploring the relationship between material properties and performance by combining DFT calculations and electrochemistry. From 2017-2018, she worked on DFT study of passivity breakdown for carbon steel in Prof. Macdonald’s group as a visiting student researcher in UC Berkeley. She became a visiting graduate student interested in theoretical study of electrocatalysis in Sargent group from January 2019.

    Armin completed his B.Sc. in materials science and engineering from the Sharif University of Technology, Iran. He is currently a MA.Sc. candidate and his research focuses on the electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide to useful fuels.

    Golam completed his BASc and MASc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. During his master's degree, he explored the use of waveguides coupled to quantum emitters for deterministic single photon interactions. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate interested in colloidal quantum dot and perovskite-based devices for light emission and solar cells.

    Hong Il Kim is Ph.D. student at POSTECH in Korea under the supervision of Prof. Taiho Park. He also worked at Polymer Research Institute (PRI) in POSTECH as a researcher from Mar. 2017 to Sep. 2018. He Joined the Sargent group in Oct. 2018. His research focuses on Highly Efficient PbS Colloidal Quantum Dots-OPV Hybrid Tandem Solar Cells.

    Jeffrey graduated from McGill University with a B.Eng. in Honours Electrical Engineering with a minor in Software Engineering. For his undergraduate research he investigated the magnetoresistance dependence of hydrogenated graphene in high parallel magnetic fields. He is currently a MASc candidate interested in perovskites for light emission and photovoltaic applications.

    Jehad completed his B.Sc. in Renewable Energy Engineering at the University of Sharjah where he worked on mechanical alloying of metastable and quasicrystal alloys for solar applications. He later obtained his M.Sc. in Materials Science and Engineering from Masdar Institute and Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he mainly worked on plasmonic water-splitting materials. Jehad is currently a Ph.D. candidate and his research focuses on the development of new Oxygen Evolution Reaction (EOR) catalysis to achieve efficient conversion of Carbon Dioxide into useful chemical fuels and feedstocks.

    Maral received her B.Sc. in Material Science and Engineering from Amirkabri University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic), Iran.  Following her bachelor studies, she pursued graduate studies in Material Science and Engineering at Sharif University of Technology where she mainly worked on dye sensitized solar cells at Nanotechnology Laboratory. She joined Sargent Group in 2018 as a Ph.D. candidate. Her current research is focused on colloidal quantum dot photovoltaics.

    Margherita received her Bachelor Degree in Materials Science and her Master Degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Università degli Studi di Genova, Italy. For her master thesis project she worked at Utrecht University, studying the synthesis and optical properties of quantum dots, supraparticles and nanoplatelets. She is currently a PhD candidate interested in colloidal quantum dots and photovoltaics.

    Olivier a complété son baccalauréat en génie physique à l'École Polytechnique de Montréal. Ses projets de recherche ont touché les composants de fibre optique, l'imagerie biomédicale, la communication en champ proche ainsi que les MEMS. Il est présentement candidat à la maîtrise et se concentre sur l'étude des CQD et des pérovskites pour des applications en photovoltaïque.

    Petar completed his Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Nanotechnology Engineering from the University of Waterloo. During his undergraduate studies, he spent 7 months at MIT as a student researcher under the supervision of Professor Vladimir Bulovic where he investigated novel nano-electromechanical systems for low power applications. He is currently a Ph. D. candidate researching the photophysics and exciton transport mechanisms of novel quantum dot and perovskite materials for applications of next-generation light emitting devices and photovoltaics.

  • Rafael Quintero-Bermudez

    Rafael completed his B.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia where he worked with Dr. Lukas Chrostowski on silicon photonics bio-sensors. He later acquired his M.Sc. in Physics, specializing in Photonics at the Friedrich-Schiller Universitat in Jena, Germany. In Jena, he studied Second Harmonic Generation enhancement by means of slow light in photonic crystals. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate interested in studying new materials for applications in light harvesting and light emission.

    Ya-Kun Wang received his master degree from Soochow University, Suzhou, China. He is currently a joint Ph.D. candidate. He did organic synthesis for organic light-emitting diodes in Soochow University for four years before he came here. In Ted’s group, he will focus on optoelectronic applications in perovskite materials.

He is currently a Master of Applied Science candidate and his research focuses on machine learning and its applications in materials science.

    Ziru completed his BS in physics from Peking University. During his bachelor's degree he explored the fabrication method and electron transport layer of perovskite PV. He is currently a PhD candidate interested in perovskite PV.
